Renesas Logo

Renesas Technology Corp. is one of the world's leading semiconductor system solutions providers for mobile, automotive and PC/AV (Audio Visual) markets and the world's No.1 supplier of microcontrollers. It is also a leading provider of LCD Driver ICs, Smart Card microcontrollers, RF-ICs, High Power Amplifiers, Mixed Signal ICs, System-on-Chip (SoC), System-in-Package (SiP) and more. Renesas Technology Corp. was established in 2003 as a joint venture between Hitachi, Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.

The comprehensive portfolio of Renesas microcontrollers (MCUs) and microprocessors (MPUs) offers the technology and capabilities to deliver almost everything that is required in an age focusing on human needs, including security technologies, miniaturization and power-saving technologies, networking, and human-machine-interface (HMI) technologies. Renesas MCUs and MPUs for embedded systems extend from low-power 8- and 16-bit MCUs all the way to high-performance 32-bit MPUs. The low-power 8/16-bit MCUs in the R8C series suit consumer, industrial and building automation, and medical applications. MCUs available with large on-chip Flash memory (upto 2.5Mbyte) in the 16-bit/32bit M16C/R32C, 16/32-bit H8S/X, the new 16/32-bit RX and the 32-bit RISC superscalar SuperH (SH-2A, SH-4A) families serve automotive, building automation, consumer, industrial, medical, PC/Server and general-purpose applications. The 32-bit Superscalar RISC MPUs in the SuperH family (SH-2A, SH-4A) facilitate designs requiring higher MIPS and multimedia SoC capabilities, for mobile infotainment applications such as navigation, media players, kiosks, IP surveillance, medical, industrial and internet appliances.

All Renesas MCUs and MPUs are supported by a complete set of Renesas hardware and software tools, as well as other solutions from large communities of third-party suppliers. Renesas development tools include in-circuit emulators; on-chip emulators; starter kits; evaluation boards; reference designs with OS, RTOS and middleware; and the enhanced High-performance Embedded Workshop (HEW), an integrated development and debugging environment for C/C++ compiler tool chains that also provides project management tools.

Reference designs developed using Swell Software PEG™ products, targeting applications requiring professional GUIs, are available for the Renesas H8S/X and SH-2A platforms today, with more exciting solutions in development.
